About the event
Join us for an exploration of a tall grass prairie restoration right here in one of Detroit's premier regional parks!
Detroit's Parks and Recreation Department continues to invest in increasing plantings of native species in the city's parks. One of the most significant of these is the tall grass prairie planting at Palmer Park. Learn about this special—and at-risk—habitat, the unique plant species typically found within it and the other myriad organisms to which it provides vital ecological services as well as a discussion of the strategies for maintaining such a habitat in an urban context.
Participants will meet in the parking lot of the Detroit Exploration and Nature Center before taking the short walk to the prairie planting behind the building. Dress for the weather (hot, humid and sunny, possibly buggy; bring water!)
One third of all proceeds from this event will be donated to the Wildflower Association of Michigan to support its programs.
